In-house (Workshop modules)

Central Dogma is committed to offer skill building in biotechnology field through both laboratory and class room based trainings. Our mission is to train biotechnology and life science professionals who are interested in establishing their careers as independent researchers. Primary goal is to enhance the practical know how through wet lab based trainings. We offer plethora of wet lab and class room based trainings through short term workshops in our well equipped laboratory in Pune and  advertise it on the website from time to time. Additionally, we do conduct customized In-house workshops for the interested group.

Salient features of the modules

  • The modules are designed and conducted by scientists who have several years of biopharma industry experience.
  • Each practical is initiated with a relevant lecture focusing on understanding of the principles, importance of individual reagent and trouble shooting at various steps.
  • Participants are awarded with certificates after successful completion of the specific module

Eligibility:

  • All students who are pursuing or have completed Bsc/MSc/PhD Biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and other fields of life sciences. B Tech/BE/M Tech/ME biotechnology, bioprocess  students who would like to establish careers in biopharma and health care industry
  • Faculty and Research students who would like to broaden their skills in biotechnology field
  • Professionals who would like to boost their careers by advanced skill sets
  • Biotech Industries who would like to enhance the skill sets of their employees

Number of seats: Max 15/batch for practical trainings (as every individual attending the course would be involved in performing experiment) and 20-25 for classroom training.

Wet lab based trainings

Title: 1. Techniques in genomics and proteomics

Eligibility: Undergraduate/post graduate students of Biology disciplines (Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioanalytics, Biochemistry)

Duration:   4 days (4 hrs/day)

  • Plasmid DNA (vector) isolation from bacterial culturebuffer
  • Agarose gel electrophoresis
  •  RFLP
  • Theory on PCR and Primer design for PCR
  • Gene amplification by Polymerase chain reaction
    • Agarose gel electrophoresis  to check gene amplification
  • Analysis of protein profile by SDS-PAGE
    • Casting a polyacrylamide gel and sample preparation and gel loading
    • Electrophoresis and staining the gel with Coomassie Blue/Silver for visualization of proteins

Title:  2. Gene cloning and recombinant selection

Duration: 5 days (4 hrs/day)

Recombinant DNA technology

Eligibility: TY Bsc/ Master’s students/Completed master’s degree

  • Isolation of expression vector and checking the yield on agarose gel electrophoresis
  • Digestion of Plasmid vector with specific restriction enzyme used for cloning
  •   Purification of digested vector by gel extraction method using kit
  • Polymerase chain reaction of the target gene and purification
  • Theory on PCR and primer design
  • Ligation of digested vector and Insert
  •  Competent E.coli host preparation and Transformation
  •  Confirmation of recombinants by colony PCR
    • Agarose gel electrophoresis of colony PCR

Title:  3. Recombinant protein expression and analysis by SDS-PAGE

Recombinant protein expression

Duration: 4 days ( 4 hrs/day)

Eligibility: TY Bsc/ Master’s students/Completed master’s degree

  • Competent E.coli expression host preparation
  • Transformation of recombinant plasmid and plating
  • Growing recombinant culture and induction (Shake flask fermentation
  • Cell harvest
  • Bead lysis of harvested cells to release the protein and sample preparation
  • Casting of SDS-PAGE
  • Loading the samples on SDS-PAGE and staining

Title: 4. Affinity chromatography for recombinant protein purification

Duration: 5 days (4 hrs/day)

Eligibility:  Master’s students/Students with Bachelor’s/master’s degree

  • Harvesting and bead lysis of cells expressing recombinant proteins
  • Protein profile check by SDS-PAGE
  • Casting of SDS-PAGE, Loading the protein samples and staining
  • Packing of column with affinity rasin, washing and equilibration with buffer
  • Protein loading for binding to the rasin and elution and Fraction collection
  • Casting of SDS-PAGE.  Loading the protein samples and silver staining
  • Protein quantification

Title: 5. Analysis of SNP in human gene by RFLP

Duration: 3 days ( 4 hrs/day)

Eligibility: TY Bsc/ Master’s students/Completed master’s degree

  • Genomic DNA extraction from buccal cells
  • Amplification of specific human gene
  • Restriction digestion of PCR product with specific enzymes to generate identify SNP by RFLP technique
  • Agarose gel electrophoresis

Title: 6. Bacterial genotyping by multiplex PCR

Duration: 3 days ( 4 hrs/day)

Eligibility: TY Bsc/ Master’s students/Completed master’s degree

  • Genomic DNA extraction from bacterial cells
  • Amplification of multiple genes from the genomic DNA by multiplexPCR
  • Genotyping by pattern recognition on Agarose gel electrophoresis

Title: 7. Basic Techniques in Biochemistry

 Duration: 1 week ( 4 hrs/day)

  • Beta amylase Enzyme activity

Title: 8. Clinical Biochemistry

 Duration:5 days (4 hrs/day)

Title: 9. Microbial application in Environment and Food

Duration: 5 days (4 hrs/day)

Eligibility: Bsc/ MSc/Completed Master’s degree

  • Isolation of bacteria, study of its colony characters and its identification upto genus level (will include performing various biochemical tests)
  • Isolation of symbiotic/non-symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria
  • Assessment of potability of water using by the MPN (most probable number) test for coliforms
  • Settling velocity determination for air samples
  • Rapid detection of coliforms using colony PCR
  • Assessment of milk pasteurization
  • Assessment of microbial contamination in health drink

Title: 10. Clinical microbiology

 Duration: 5 days (4 hrs/day)

Eligibility: Bsc/ MSc/Completed Master’s degree

  • Study of clinically important bacteria: Proteus,/Salmonella,/Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, / Staphylococcus aureus (colony characterization and staining)
  • Specific Biochemical tests for detection of above organisms
  • Rapid detection of clinically important microbes by PCR
  • Determination of MIC and MBC of an antibiotic
  • Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion assay and well diffusion assay of antibiotics
  • Detection of infectious organism from clinical sample (isolation and identification)

All the modules mentioned above can be catered/changed based on the need.
